According to police reports, a 21-year-old resident of Barton, Matthew Santaw, was arrested early March 22 on Interstate 91 North for driving under the influence. Vermont State Police say that during a traffic stop at mile marker 124, officers observed Santaw committing a traffic violation, prompting further investigation.
Police allege that Santaw was operating a vehicle while impaired and was found to be violating conditions of his release from prior charges. He was taken into custody and transported to the St. Johnsbury Barracks for processing. Santaw is currently lodged at the Northeast Correctional Complex on a $5,000 bail, stemming from ongoing charges with the Newport Police Department.
