Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 19, 2026

VT Scout (“VTScout,” “we,” “us,” “our”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit vtscout.com or subscribe to our newsletter, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the site you agree to the practices described here.

Information we collect

Information you provide. When you subscribe to The Daily Scout, send a news tip, request a correction, or contact us, we collect the email address and any details you choose to include. We store these in our newsletter platform (Brevo) and our internal records.

Information collected automatically. Our servers and analytics providers log standard request data — IP address, browser, operating system, referring URL, pages visited, and timestamps — to operate the site and measure readership.

Cookies and similar technologies. We use cookies for site functionality (remembering preferences), analytics (measuring traffic), and, where applicable, advertising (Google AdSense). You can manage cookies through your browser settings or our consent banner where required by law.

How we use information

  • To deliver newsletters and other communications you’ve opted into.
  • To respond to tips, corrections, and reader inquiries.
  • To measure and improve readership, performance, and content.
  • To serve and measure advertising via Google AdSense and similar networks.
  • To detect, prevent, and respond to abuse, fraud, or technical issues.

Advertising and analytics partners

We use Google AdSense to display ads. Google and third-party vendors may use cookies, web beacons, and similar technologies to show ads based on your prior visits to our site or other sites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our sites and other sites on the Internet. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Ads Settings. You can also opt out of a third-party vendor’s use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting aboutads.info.

We may also use analytics services (such as Google Analytics, Cloudflare Web Analytics, or similar) to understand site usage. These tools may set their own cookies.

Newsletter and consent

The Daily Scout is a double opt-in newsletter. You confirm your subscription via email before receiving any content. Every email contains a one-click unsubscribe link. You can also email [email protected] to be removed.

Your choices

  • Unsubscribe from emails at any time using the link in every newsletter.
  • Manage cookies through our consent banner (where shown) or your browser.
  • Request access or deletion of personal data we hold about you by emailing [email protected].
  • Do Not Track — we honor browser-level signals where technically feasible.

Your privacy rights (US state laws)

Residents of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, and other US states with comprehensive privacy laws may have rights including the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to access or delete it, the right to correct inaccurate data, and the right to opt out of certain processing such as targeted advertising. To exercise these rights, email [email protected] with the subject line “Privacy request.” We will respond within the time frame required by applicable law and may need to verify your identity before completing your request. We do not sell personal information in the traditional sense; however, the use of advertising cookies may qualify as “sharing” under some state laws, which you may opt out of via our consent banner or by visiting Google Ad Settings.

EEA, UK, and Switzerland

If you are in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, our Google Consent Management Platform (CMP) banner asks for your consent to non-essential cookies, including advertising and analytics cookies, before they are set. You may withdraw consent at any time by clearing your cookies or revisiting the banner.

Data retention

We retain newsletter subscriber data until you unsubscribe or request deletion. Reader inquiries and tip emails are retained as part of our editorial records for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes of journalism and record-keeping. Server and analytics logs are typically retained for 12–24 months.

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal information. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach affecting your information we will notify you as required by law.

Children

VTScout is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, email [email protected] and we will delete it.

Third-party links

Our site contains links to external pages we do not control. We are not responsible for their privacy practices. Review the privacy policies of any third-party site you visit.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be noted at the top of this page with a revised “Last updated” date.
