Help improve VTScout
VTScout is a small, reader-supported newsroom, and a few extra sets of eyes go a long way. If you love Vermont news and want to help polish what we publish, we’d be glad to hear from you. This is casual and entirely voluntary — no commitment, no application, just a quick hello.
Spot a typo or an awkward sentence, flag a headline that reads wrong, suggest a local angle we missed, or proofread a section you know well. As little or as much as you like.
There’s no schedule, no quota, and no obligation. Help when it suits you and step away whenever life gets busy. We’re grateful for any time you can spare.
A real person reads every note. If it looks like a good fit we’ll email you back to say hello and figure out an easy first step together — no interview, no forms.
Say hello
Just your name, an email, and a sentence or two about what you’d enjoy helping with. That’s all we need to start.
Got it.
Thanks for reaching out. We’ll respond within 24 hours during business days.

Is this a paid job?
No. Volunteer editors help on a casual, unpaid basis because they care about Vermont news. There’s no salary, no schedule, and no obligation — help as much or as little as suits you.
What does a volunteer editor actually do?
Whatever you enjoy and have time for: spotting typos, flagging confusing headlines, proofreading a section you know well, or suggesting a local angle we missed. Small contributions are genuinely useful.
Do I need journalism experience?
No. A good eye for clear writing and care for accuracy matter more than a résumé. If you read closely and want to help, that’s enough to start.
What happens after I reach out?
A real person reads every note within a day or two. If it looks like a good fit we’ll email you back to say hello and suggest an easy first step. There’s no interview.
Can I stop whenever I want?
Absolutely. There’s no commitment — step away whenever life gets busy, no notice needed. We’re grateful for any time you can spare.
