According to police reports, a 36-year-old St. Johnsbury resident, Nicholas Pinto, was arrested on November 3, 2025, following an incident involving the theft and crash of a municipal truck. The Vermont State Police were alerted to the theft near Fairbanks Scales at approximately 12:05 PM. Officers were dispatched to the area when they learned that the stolen truck had crashed on New Boston Road.

Upon arrival, police say they found Pinto exiting the damaged vehicle, which he had allegedly taken while a town employee was still inside. According to the report, there was a struggle between Pinto and the employee before Pinto gained control of the truck. He subsequently crashed the vehicle into concrete bollards and a power pole on New Boston Road.

Pinto has been charged with assault and robbery, gross negligent operation, aggravated operating without the owner’s consent, and aggravated disorderly conduct. He is currently being held without bail and is scheduled to appear in Caledonia County Superior Court on November 4, 2025, at 12:30 PM.
