According to police reports, a 55-year-old man from Londonderry, New Hampshire, was charged with multiple offenses following a traffic stop on Interstate 91 in Springfield, Vermont, early on April 25. Vermont State Police received a call from a concerned motorist about a vehicle’s erratic driving behavior and subsequently intercepted the vehicle at mile marker 43.2.
Police say the driver, identified as Jose Luis Ortiz Cruz, appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. During the arrest, officers discovered cocaine on Cruz’s person and additional cocaine inside the vehicle. He was taken to the Westminster Barracks for processing before being lodged at the Southern State Correctional Facility.
Cruz faces charges of DUI refusal, possession of cocaine, and negligent operation. He is scheduled to appear in the Vermont Superior Court, Windsor Criminal Division, on May 12 at 8:30 a.m. According to the report, the charges are allegations, and the court date is subject to change as the legal proceedings progress.
