According to police reports, human remains were discovered in the Green Mountain National Forest in Mt. Tabor, Vermont, on Saturday, April 25, 2026. Hikers found a pair of old, partially buried hiking boots in a boggy area, which contained what appeared to be human foot bones. Vermont State Police were contacted to investigate and conducted an initial search of the area but did not find any additional remains at that time.

On May 4, 2026, a more extensive search was carried out by various teams, including members of the Bureau of Criminal Investigations, Search and Rescue Team, and U.S. Forest Service law enforcement personnel. This search led to the discovery of further human remains and personal items, which were found partially buried under layers of leaf fall and soil.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to determine the identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding the death.
