Highgate teen cited for excessive speed on I-89 in Swanton, police say

In Swanton, police say Kaden Bushey, 19, was cited for excessive speed after being clocked at 100 mph in a 65 mph zone on I-89.

Vermont State Police say a traffic enforcement operation on May 3, 2026, led to the citation of a 19-year-old man for excessive speeding on Interstate 89 in Swanton. Troopers were conducting stationary radar checks around 7:09 PM when they detected a vehicle traveling at 100 mph in a 65 mph zone.

According to police, the speed violation was confirmed using radar equipment. The driver, identified as Kaden Bushey from Highgate, was pulled over and subsequently issued a citation. He faces charges under Title 23 V.S.A. 1004 related to interstate highway rules. In addition to the citation, Bushey received a Vermont Civil Violation Complaint for the speeding infraction, which carries a waiver amount of $530 and two points against his driving record.

Bushey is scheduled to appear in Franklin County Superior Court. As with all charges, these allegations are subject to change as the legal process unfolds. Court dates may also be adjusted at the court’s discretion. Police remind the public to adhere to speed limits to ensure road safety.
