Derby man arrested for simple assault at Walmart, police say

Kameron Lill, 23, of Newport Center, allegedly fled the scene of a Walmart fight that left a 22-year-old with injuries. He was apprehended hours later.

Vermont State Police say a 23-year-old man from Newport Center has been charged with simple assault following an incident at the Walmart in Derby on May 6, 2026. According to police reports, officers were alerted to a fight occurring inside the store around 4:29 PM. Investigators determined that Kameron Lill had caused injuries to 22-year-old Caydon Hamel, a Newport City resident.

After the altercation, Lill fled the scene but was located and apprehended by law enforcement a few hours later. He was subsequently taken to the Derby Barracks for processing.

Lill is scheduled to appear in Orleans County Superior Court on June 23, 2026, at 8:00 AM. The charges he faces are allegations at this stage, and the court date may be subject to change. Additional details regarding bail or lodging were not available.
