Vermont State Police say a fire at a residence on Barclay Quarry Road in Barre Town led to the discovery of a deceased individual early Saturday morning, March 14, 2026. Firefighters from the Barre Town Fire Department responded to the scene around 5:45 a.m. and found heavy smoke and flames on the first floor of the home.
According to the report, upon entering the building, firefighters located a male victim whose identity is pending confirmation and notification of relatives. The Department of Public Safety’s Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit was called to assist in determining the fire’s origin and cause. Initial investigations have not indicated that the fire is suspicious, although a definitive cause has yet to be established. The victim has been sent to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington for an autopsy.
