According to police reports, a single-vehicle crash occurred early on February 2, 2026, near the intersection of VT Route 113 and US Route 5 in Thetford. Vermont State Police say Alec Whitman, a 39-year-old from Lyme, New Hampshire, crashed his 2022 GMC Sierra at around 2:00 AM. The vehicle struck signage owned by the Vermont Agency of Transportation and a fence belonging to Little Feet Children’s Center.

Whitman allegedly left the scene without notifying the property owners or law enforcement, prompting police to cite him for leaving the scene of an accident. He also received a traffic violation citation for failing to maintain his lane. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries from the incident.

Whitman has been summoned to appear in Orange County Criminal Court on March 25, 2026, at 8:30 AM.
