According to police reports, a rescue operation was launched Saturday evening, February 7, 2026, for two hikers stranded near the summit of Camels Hump in Duxbury, Vermont. The hikers, a 21-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman from Ontario, Canada, called 911 to report they were in extreme cold conditions and needed help.

Emergency personnel responded around 6 p.m. and guided the hikers to descend below the tree line while mobilizing rescue teams from the Vermont State Police, alongside local backcountry rescue organizations.
