According to police reports, Charles Hammond, a 68-year-old resident of Newport Center, was arrested on December 7, 2025, for suspected driving under the influence. Vermont State Police responded to an anonymous tip about a crash on Farrar Road around 3:47 p.m. and found Hammond at the scene.
Upon arrival, officers determined that Hammond had driven off the road but did not cause any damage to property. Following their investigation, police took him into custody for DUI. He was subsequently transported to a detox facility and issued a criminal citation for a second DUI offense.
Hammond is scheduled to appear in Orleans Court on February 24, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. The charges against him are currently allegations, and the legal status may change as the case progresses.
