Vermont State Police say a multi-vehicle collision occurred on Interstate 89 North at mile marker 86.3 in South Burlington on January 28, 2026, around 10:06 AM. The incident took place while traffic was halted due to an unrelated single-vehicle accident ahead.
According to police reports, Timothy Turner, 66, of South Hero, was driving a 2012 Honda Accord when he lost control and struck two other vehicles. The second vehicle involved was a 2025 Chevrolet Equinox operated by 43-year-old John Sims from Starksboro, and the third was a 2024 Ford F150 driven by 73-year-old Christopher Chappell of Williston. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the occupants of any of the vehicles, although damage occurred to the front end of Turner’s vehicle and the passenger sides of Sims’ and Chappell’s vehicles.
The South Burlington Fire Department and Central Service Towing assisted at the scene. No charges have been filed as a result of the crash, and the investigation is ongoing, according to police. Further legal proceedings may be determined as more information becomes available.
