Vermont State Police say a single-vehicle rollover crash occurred late on December 17, 2025, on Interstate 91 North near Mile Marker 175 in Derby, Vermont. The vehicle, a 2004 Honda CR-V, was found overturned off the right side of the highway after a report was received from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection at the nearby Port of Entry.
According to police, the driver, identified as 37-year-old Nicole Merrill of Holland, Vermont, left the scene without reporting the incident. The crash caused significant damage, totaling the vehicle and impacting approximately 10 feet of guardrail. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and no occupants were present in the vehicle at the time of the investigation. Merrill has been charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident and will appear in Orleans Criminal Court on February 3, 2025, at 8:00 AM. Additionally, she received several civil violation complaints for operating without a valid license, lacking liability insurance, and failing to drive on designated roadways.
The charges against Merrill are allegations, and the court date may change as the case progresses.
