According to police reports, a 21-year-old man from Franklin, Gabriel Bates, was taken into custody on April 20, 2026, after being clocked at 112 mph on I-89 near mile marker 111 in Georgia. Troopers from the St. Albans Barracks were conducting speed enforcement when they observed Bates’s vehicle exceeding the posted speed limit of 65 mph.
Police say a traffic stop was initiated without incident, and Bates was subsequently processed at the St. Albans Barracks. He has been charged with negligent operation, a violation of Title 23 V.S.A. 1004. Additionally, he received a Vermont Civil Violation Complaint with a waiver amount set at $696.
Bates is scheduled to appear in Franklin County Superior Court on May 26, 2026, at 8:00 AM to respond to the allegations. As with all criminal charges, these remain allegations until proven in court. Further developments may occur as the case progresses through the legal system.
