According to police reports, a multi-vehicle crash occurred on March 31, 2026, at approximately 4:52 PM on Main Street in Waitsfield. Vermont State Police say Joseph Hagan, 47, of Bristol, was operating a 2019 Subaru Legacy when he struck two vehicles before crashing into the first floor of Waitsfield Pottery.
The investigation revealed that Hagan’s vehicle collided with a 2020 Toyota Corolla, driven by 20-year-old Julian Fairchild of Warren, and a 2016 Chevrolet Colorado, operated by 50-year-old Eric Baruzzi of Fayston, while traveling south on Route 100. Hagan’s vehicle sustained significant damage and was declared totaled. He was transported to Central Vermont Medical Center for evaluation, where police detected signs of impairment. Hagan was subsequently charged with driving under the influence and negligent operation.
No serious injuries were reported from the incident, and both Fairchild and Baruzzi reported no injuries. Hagan is scheduled to appear in Washington County Superior Court – Criminal Division on April 9, 2026, at 8:30 AM. Police note that all charges remain allegations until proven in court, and court dates are subject to change.
