Vermont State Police say a Grand Isle man is facing serious charges following a vehicle incident involving a sheriff’s deputy in South Hero. Kevin Marx, 36, was arrested late Wednesday night and is charged with attempted first-degree murder after allegedly striking the deputy with his vehicle on U.S. Route 2.

According to the report, the incident occurred around 8:10 p.m. when the deputy was returning to his cruiser after a traffic stop. Marx, the driver of a 2022 Subaru Forester, reportedly turned the vehicle around and hit the deputy, dragging him before the vehicle came to a stop. The deputy, whose identity has not been released, was taken to the University of Vermont Medical Center, where his injuries are considered stable but not life-threatening.

Marx was located at his residence in Grand Isle just before 11 p.m. and was taken into custody without incident. He is scheduled for arraignment at 8:30 a.m. Thursday in the Criminal Division of Vermont Superior Court in North Hero. Charges are subject to change as the case progresses, and the affidavit of probable cause will be filed with the court after the arraignment.
