Vermont State Police say a 36-year-old man was arrested late Wednesday night in connection with a vehicle striking a Grand Isle County sheriff’s deputy in South Hero. Kevin Marx was taken into custody at his home shortly before 11 p.m. without incident, according to police.
The incident occurred around 8:10 p.m. on U.S. Route 2, near the intersection with Ferry Road. Police report that the deputy was injured while returning to his cruiser after stopping a vehicle for a traffic violation. The driver, identified as Marx, allegedly turned his vehicle and struck the deputy, dragging him before stopping in a wooded area. The deputy was pinned underneath and was rescued after about 30 minutes. He was transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center, where his injuries are reported to be stable and not life-threatening.
Marx faces charges that are currently under review by the Grand Isle County State’s Attorney and is expected to be arraigned in the Criminal Division of Vermont Superior Court in North Hero. The situation remains under investigation, and court details may change as the case progresses. U.S. Route 2 remains closed in the area of the incident while authorities continue their work.
