Newfane man cited for leaving scene of accident, police say

According to police reports, a Newfane man is facing multiple charges following a motor vehicle crash on February 16, 2026. Vermont State Police say Wyatt C. Watkins, 28, of Rutland City, allegedly struck a homeowner’s fence while driving along Vermont Route 30 before fleeing the scene.

The incident occurred around 2:55 PM, when authorities were alerted to the crash. Upon investigation, police determined Watkins had left the location without providing his information to the property owner or notifying law enforcement. Reports indicate that a juvenile passenger was present in Watkins’ vehicle at the time of the incident.

Watkins has been charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Negligent Operation, Cruelty to a Child, and Reckless Endangerment. Following the investigation, he received a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Windham County – Criminal Division, on May 26, 2026, at 8:30 AM.
