Vermont State Police say a 23-year-old man from Brooklyn, New York, was arrested for driving under the influence after a vehicle incident in Shaftsbury. The incident occurred on February 13, 2026, at approximately 12:58 a.m. when police were dispatched to Paran Road, where the driver, Henry Altman, reported his vehicle had gone off the road while avoiding a deer.
According to the report, troopers on the scene suspected Altman was impaired. He underwent Standardized Field Sobriety Exercises, which indicated signs of impairment. A preliminary breath test revealed a blood alcohol concentration over three times the legal limit of 0.08%. Following this, Altman was taken into custody and transported to the Shaftsbury Barracks for additional testing.
Altman was later released with a citation and is scheduled to appear in Bennington County Superior Court, Criminal Division, on March 2, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. The charges against him are allegations, and court dates may be subject to change as the case progresses.
