Vermont State Police say a two-vehicle crash on US Route 7 in Pittsford early on December 13 resulted in one fatality and minor injuries. According to police reports, the incident occurred around 5:13 a.m. when a tractor-trailer driven by 64-year-old Paul Ricard from Castleton became detached while traveling northbound. Ricard exited his vehicle to reconnect the trailer, which had come to a stop in the roadway.
While Ricard was outside his vehicle, 54-year-old Christopher Cyr of Rutland collided with the detached trailer. Cyr was pronounced dead at the scene, while Ricard sustained suspected minor injuries and was transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Emergency responders, including the Regional Ambulance Service and the Pittsford Fire Department, assisted on-site. Police report that a Vermont Civil Violation Complaint is pending against Ricard, and further legal proceedings are expected.
