According to police reports, a 44-year-old Pownal resident, John P. Davey, was arrested early on December 13, 2025, following a series of incidents linked to a traffic stop on Vermont Route 346. Vermont State Police say the stop involved a vehicle whose occupants were attempting to arrange for a friend to retrieve it due to their suspended licenses. During this interaction, officers learned that Davey was allegedly pursuing this friend while intoxicated.
Police say that after locating Davey at his residence, he displayed agitated behavior and threatened officers. When informed of his impending arrest, he resisted, leading to a physical confrontation before he was taken into custody. Davey was subsequently charged with driving under the influence (third offense), resisting arrest, driving while criminally suspended, and multiple probation violations. He was then taken to the Marble Valley Correctional Facility due to his level of intoxication.
Davey is scheduled to appear in Bennington County Superior Court, Criminal Division, on December 29, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. All charges are allegations at this stage, and court dates may be subject to change as the case progresses.
