Vermont State Police say a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 91 South occurred on December 9, 2025, around 7:38 a.m. near mile marker 83 in Thetford. The crash involved 77-year-old Robert Mayhew from Hardwick and 71-year-old Martha Ilsley from Thetford.
According to police reports, Mayhew was driving a 2025 Ford Maverick when he drifted onto the left shoulder, hitting a patch of snow. This caused him to lose control and collide with the rear driver’s side of Ilsley’s 2024 Cadillac CT5. Following the impact, Mayhew’s vehicle rolled onto its side, while Ilsley’s car veered off the road. Thetford Fire Department responded and extricated Mayhew, who was taken to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for treatment of suspected minor injuries. Ilsley reported no injuries and both vehicles were towed by Legendary Auto.
There is no court action pending in connection with this incident, and the investigation is ongoing. As with all charges, the allegations are subject to change as the case progresses.
